Three students have been suspended from a high school in Polk County, Georgia, after one of them deciding to bring a Confederate battle flag onto campus, strapped to his backpack. This isn’t even where it gets crazy; the school then decided to lock down the entire student body, because they feared the incident would cause an out-of-control upheaval among the students.
The principal showed to be the man behind the chaos, as he later proclaimed that he does not believe that the “distraction,” meaning a student exercising their freedom of speech, was conducive to a safe learning environment. But apparently the locking of students into their classrooms, momentarily halting of classes and the summary redefinition of the First Amendment doesn’t fall under that draconian classification.
