In Wednesday’s episode of South Park, the notorious duo Trey Parker and Matt Stone decided to finally tackle this year’s political correctness movement, Caitlyn Jenner criticism. They held back no punches as they pointedly addressed the hypocrisy and madness of publicly shaming anyone who dares to buck “culturally acceptable” speech, by saying, for example, that Caitlyn Jenner, a recently proclaimed self-identified transsexual, is neither a hero or a courageous role model.
Political Correctness is defined as the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.
The South Park episode did a hilarious job of showing how the attempts to censor making fun of speech, people and things, by orchestrating social and physical pressures, is neither compassionate, effective or American. Just because someone is attributing themselves to a persecuted minority group does not mean they have a blanket protection against the criticism and comments of others. When will the extreme left realize that simply exercising freedom of speech, a protected right under the 1st Amendment of the United States Constitution, is not a criminal act and it will not be snuffed out through aggressive social nudging?
