Government waste: EPA official spent $69,000 in excessive travel expenses

During a recent audit, investigators uncovered evidence that revealed an official at the EPA accumulated in excess of $69,000 worth of travel expenses. The EPA official racked up so many expenses because he decided to fly home almost every week on the tax payer’s dime. The official was the former head of region 9 in San Francisco, California and he filed for travel expenses for 88 separate trips in the space of the 3 years he held the position at the EPA.

This audit was the latest in a series of investigations to attempt to address and change policies that were ripe for corruption. The former polices were the same ones that allowed for the fraud of John C. Beale, a former EPA official who swindled the American taxpayers out of $900,000 while pretending to be a CIA agent.
