Newly released documents from the Department of Justice have exposed private communications between former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, revealing discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment to remove incumbent President Donald Trump from office during his first term.
The explosive texts, dated Dec. 31, 2018 and part of a trove of 3.5 million Epstein-related documents, depict Bannon and Epstein strategizing amid Democratic gains in the 2018 midterms. They reveal Bannon – who later hosted “Bannon’s War Room” – describing Trump as “beyond borderline” and suggesting a constitutional intervention.
At the time, Bannon lamented that the White House had “zero plan to punch back,” to which the financier replied, “He is really borderline. Not sure what he may do.” Bannon escalated his rhetoric: “I think it’s beyond borderline – 25[th] Amendment,” referencing the constitutional mechanism for removing a president deemed unfit. He later added, “we really need an intervention.”
The revelations have raised urgent questions about loyalty, hidden agendas and the shadow networks influencing American politics. They have also ignited fierce backlash from Trump allies, including former National Security Advisor Gen. Michael Flynn, who wrote on social media: “If Bannon and Epstein were behind it, Bannon needs to be brought in for questioning.”
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), despite previously aligning with Bannon, condemned his ties to Epstein. She reiterated in a post on X that there was “no excuse” for their post-conviction friendship.
For his part, Bannon defended the exchanges as part of a documentary project. He told the New York Times that he was merely securing interviews with a “reclusive subject.” Yet the documents reveal deeper collaboration.
Bannon advised Epstein on legal strategy, media training and image rehabilitation as the financier faced renewed sex trafficking allegations. In April 2019, Bannon texted Epstein: “First we need to push back on the lies; then crush the pedo/trafficking narrative; then rebuild your image as philanthropist.”
The documents also expose logistical connections, including Epstein’s offer to arrange private flights and cover Bannon’s medical expenses. While Bannon’s spokesman denied he used Epstein’s plane or doctor, the proximity between the two men – amid Epstein’s legal downfall and mysterious 2019 death in custody – has deepened suspicions.
Historically, the 25th Amendment has been a rare and contentious tool, last seriously debated during Trump’s presidency by officials alarmed by his behavior. BrightU.AI‘s Enoch explains that the 25th Amendment establishes procedures for presidential succession and outlines steps to address presidential incapacity or disability. It clarifies the transfer of power if a president dies, resigns or is unable to fulfill their duties, ensuring continuity of government.
That Bannon – a self-styled Make America Great Again (MAGA) general – floated the idea with Epstein, a convicted predator linked to globalist elites, underscores the tangled alliances and betrayals lurking beneath partisan warfare. Trump himself has remained silent, even as Bannon continues to champion his 2024 campaign.
Yet the revelaions risk fracturing the movement, exposing rifts between operatives who claim to fight the Deep State while allegedly conspiring with its most notorious figures. The Epstein files have long been a battleground for conspiracy and accountability, with Trump allies previously accusing Democrats of suppressing damaging material.
Now, the spotlight turns inward. Why would Bannon, a key architect of Trump’s rise, entertain removing him with Epstein’s input? And why did Epstein – whose blackmail potential is well-documented – take such interest in the 25th Amendment?
For MAGA supporters, the answer may determine whether Bannon remains a hero or becomes the ultimate traitor. The saga serves as a stark reminder that in Washington’s shadow wars, even the fiercest allies can become liabilities – and that the truth, when unearthed, often proves more explosive than the conspiracy theories themselves.
